CarlosGonzalezGutierrez.jpgConsul Gonzalez Gutierrez is currently the Consul General of Mexico in Austin, Texas. A member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1987, he has been Consul General of Mexico in Sacramento, California (2009-2015), Consul for Community Affairs at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles (1989-1995), Director for Community Affairs at the Program for Mexican Communities Abroad (1995-1999), and Counselor for Latino Affairs at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington D.C. (1999-2003).

Before his arrival to Sacramento, he was Executive Director of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad at Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from El Colegio de México, and a Master of Arts degree from the School of International Relations at the University of Southern California. He is the author of several publications about the Mexican population in the United States. In September 2011, the President of Mexico promoted Carlos to the rank of Ambassador.
